Sent to Dwell

22 The time came for Joseph and Mary to perform the ceremony of purification, as the Law of Moses commanded. So they took the child to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, 23 as it is written in the law of the Lord: “Every first-born male is to be dedicated to the Lord.” 24 They also went to offer a sacrifice of a pair of doves or two young pigeons, as required by the law of the Lord.

Luke 2:22-24 (GNT)

A pair of doves
and two young pigeons
offered as sacrifice.
Laws written
for a time passing.
Laws written for a time
when God sat on His throne,
not in the arms
of His mother.

Offerings of purification
by the imperfect.
They make their way
up stone steps
and through ornate passages
to offer symbolic gestures.
The people wish to wash away
their iniquity
with the life
of innocence.

The lamb is among you,
given now
that you might know Him
and welcome Him
into your hearts.
He is a child
without defilement,
the one sent to dwell
in the world He created.
