The Morning

Image
My name is Flavius.   I am a subordinate assigned to the procurator overseeing this forsaken piece of dry earth.   It is difficult to see it any other way.   I should not complain.   I am fortunate to have this position.   Our military strength here is solid.   They have suppressed every uprising, making an example of those who seek to defy the empire.   Still, there are better places to serve. I woke just before the sun began to creep over the horizon.   I open the shutters and gazed out into the courtyard as the sun began to push the night back toward Hades.   The Jews speak of the world of darkness, calling it Gehenna.   I wonder if there is such a place, and if so, are we destined to embrace it, their view along with our own. What have we done?   I have pondered this thought during my waking hours, and in the dark void of night I found very little sleep.   These Jews and their monotheistic god are a strange lot.   ...

See the Tomb

Image
A stone is pushed away. A tomb carved in ancient rock is empty except for the linen cloth of burial. An open cavern. A borrowed cave where salvation was laid, torn flesh and broken bread. A stone is pushed away. A void of yesterday, conquered, when the empty world of death gave way to life. copyright 2026 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author https://www.goodreads.com

The Women

Image
You ran, perhaps filled with a joy unknown before. After the empty day that was yesterday, you had expected nothing more than more emptiness. You ran, the light frightened you, but the voice gave you strength, so you sprinted from the sight of stones and boulders. Would they believe you? Your euphoria had to diminish, a tiny bit, as you considered rejection. You were women, you had no voice among the men, your opinion had no weight except in His hearing. You ran, all the way to great city. It is what the light told you to do. Peter and John, they will doubt your words. Your excitable rambling will make little sense to the world. Miracles exist to fester doubt, and what is seen by the women, is never equal to what will be seen by men. copyright 2025- Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Grace is Upon Us

Image
Rending the Veil - William Bell Scott, 1869 The tomb is opened. Come and see. He has said this, promised that He would fulfill scripture. Now it is done. The stone has been rolled away and the darkness inside is empty. The women were first, then those who hid in fear followed. Maybe they doubted Mary's claim. But He has risen. The earth has trembled. The veil has been torn, top to bottom. Grace is upon us. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

The Third Day

Image
Alexander Andreyevich Ivanov (1806-1858) - Christ's Appearance to Mary Magdalene After the Resurrection This is the third day. It has no end. The blood of Friday has passed. We live in a Sunday eternal. This is the third day. The stone has fallen away. The light has returned to the world. Darkness is submissive to Him. This is the third day. There is no need for tears. He has come to Mary. She has told His friends. This is the third day. A day of everlasting joy. The world will never mourn, for those who seek His truth. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Empty Tomb

Image
It is right for us to stand gazing into an empty tomb. The stone has been rolled away by earthquakes and angels. No longer are we subjected to those who dictate the law, grace will anoint our foreheads, the Spirit of God is among us. The oils and herbs have never been needed. He told us. Yet we were blinded by the world, and still He chose us to stand amazed before the empty tomb. It is right that we should sing praises of God's new covenant. He has sent His son, not Isaac or a prophet, but one begotten of His own being. God from God, light from light, this is truth and we have stood amazed at the open tomb. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author From the Collection;  From Capernaum to Emmaus

Witnesses Today

Image
And so we wait with great anticipation. God from God, Light from Light. We wait to hear a crying child in a stable, a mother singing sweet melodies to her infant. We wait to see shepherds kneel before the glories in the sky and wise men bow in homage. And then we wait again, to see the stone rolled from the entrance of an empty tomb, to hear Mary's wonderful news brought to the apostles. We long to feel the joy spreading through the upper room when their Lord, Master and Friend stands before them, Alive. Yet we who are witnesses today, need not wait. The child, given by the Father, is here to be in your hearts everyday. He has grown to become a man. He died for every blemish on every soul and He longs to stand beside you in every room and every place. How fortunate are we! copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
