Introspective

Image
Introspective. A shore avoided by those fearing the waves. Fishermen with nets cast out in the morning light. Introspective. Sitting at table with those who's folly is righteousness. A sinner cries, wiping His feet with her raven colored hair. Introspective. A tomb where a friend had been laid. Skeptics abound waiting to ridicule through tears a miracle comes forth. Introspective. Two beams fastened, forming an instrument of shame. A cross, the Father's way to love and shepherd His people. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Talents and Gifts

Image
He opened his eyes, although he wasn't certain they were ever really closed.  He sat in a chair, neither comfortable nor uncomfortable.  An open field surrounded him.  Green grass and wild flowers of yellows and purples stretched to the horizon.  The only interruption, a blemish, on the idyllic scene, was another man in a chair facing his. The other man seemed out of focus.  His features were unclear.  The first man, the one who had just opened his eyes, tried to identify the man who was little more than a blemish against the meadow. "Who are you?" He asked, not expecting an answer, as the idea that he was in a dream brought on by... that was it... the accident.  He'd been driving too fast.  He lost control of his Ferrari. 'That was a fantastic car,' he mused, forgetting about the man, without discernable features, sitting across from him. "What have you done with that which I have given you?" The out of focus man finally spoke. The Ferrari, yes, ...

A Prayer

Image
A prayer whose true purpose is love. A prayer with an outcome unaided by human hands. A prayer asking to count the hairs on the head of someone adored. A prayer with outcome undeserved. A prayer with realization I am unworthy to ask. A prayer that despite my sin His will be done. A prayer an offering repetitive. A prayer when there are no sheep or doves in my temple. A prayer when the only answer is to love. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

A Maintenance Shop Christmas

Image
It was a maintenance shop, like any other.  There was grease, dirt and tools.  There were men who worked with their hands.  Sometimes their words were coarse.  Usually they didn't care. It was the twenty-third day of the month.  The holiday was two days away.  One of the men was single and would spend the holiday at home with his parents.  Two would be with their spouses.  One would visit his brother and sister-in-law, and their two young children. Rob had brought two unfinished gifts, for his niece and nephew, into the shop.  The other three came and gathered around, cups of coffee in hand, to offer their opinions and suggestions.   "Gonna take some cleaning up," Rick said. "And I have paint," Rob added. "You plan to paint them in here?" Rick queried. "The paint smell will go right up the hallway.  Pete will have a fit." The verbal response to Rick's words was colorful.  All four decided they would deal with Pete's wrath ...

Psalm 137 (An Inspiration)

Image
By the Waters of Babylon , painting by  Arthur Hacker , c.  1888 Loss and hope, we sit here and weep, remembering what we had. The good days have faded, those we took for granted. The world says be joyful for what we have accomplished, I am sad for what we've lost. I hang my harp in the willow. I will not sing for your cause, nor will I dance. How can I say, this life, the one the world adores, Is better than any other. Loss and hope, the waters of Babylon flow by. This world seems foreign. The songs sung here are in languages I cannot understand. For on one day they burnt the holy city. On the next they crucified love. copyright 2023 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Affirmation

Image
Heinrich Hofmann, "Christ and the Rich Young Ruler" "Define for me, love," he said to the teacher. "You tell me," the teacher replied as he scratched his thick white beard. "If I love, do I not accept you as you are?" he asked. "Do you?  Do you affirm everything that I am?" "I guess so." The teacher sat on the surface of a flat stone.  He crossed his legs and studied his student. "What is the greatest piece of literature?" "I guess with all its translations, I would have to say the Bible." "And what does the Bible say about love?" the teacher asked. "That we should love God and our neighbor..." The teacher held up a hand, stopping his student. "You are describing and action of love, but not love.  Wouldn't you say that the act of a man giving his life for another, is an act of love?" "But... that is an action as well," the student responded. "Ahh, so love is ...

Cana (Come Witness a Miracle)

Image
Come, witness a miracle. Water turned into wine and each guest at a beautiful wedding tastes the sweetness of the grapes. Wine that sings of joy, for the moment is filled with joy. Come, witness a miracle. Two who love, and promise to love. Two who's flesh tingles for the warmth of each other. Embracing a dream, embracing a trust, embracing a friend with whom each fiber of life desires to be shared. copyright 1992 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Love

Image
This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. John 15:12 Love, when the world around you deserves less. Be the beacons of light shining into the hearts of those who struggle in darkness. Love, when you have been ridiculed and spoken falsely of. You are the ones who know the Father how can you not treasure His every creation. Love, as the savior loves, from the sinners table and from the cross. Seek out every lost sheep and change their direction. Love, those who despise your name. Love the friend who denies and the one who betrays. Love the soldier who whips and the one who swings the hammer. Love, and you can expect to be loved. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author From the Collection;  According to John

The Book

Image
Some tell me it's a book of stories contradictory to each other. A hundred fables thrown into a volume, much like any other book with the same purpose. Some let it set collecting dust on a table top displayed, so others might think it is often read. Some never leaf through the pages or sing one song within. They who who have no guide, who say they don't need crutches. Some open the book often and see each passage as an act of love. They are the wheat, who acknowledge their need for contradiction. copyright 2016 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
