Children of Leah

Image
When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb. Pieter Symonsz Potter - Jacob Urging Leah and Rachel to Flee The unloved. A bride by trickery. The one who ached to be held by a husband who considered her worthy. The pain of Leah was witnessed, as all is seen. Her prayer was heard, as the LORD listens. And she was given children, if not her husband's love. The unloved, the bride of trickery, bears the line of priesthood as the LORD's answer and the lineage of the savior. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Jacob's Ladder

Image
And he dreamed that there was a ladder set upon the earth, the top of it reaching to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Genesis 28:12 Jacob's Ladder - Wencesles Hollar From heaven to earth, ascending and descending, angels. some coming to the soil of this world, others returning. A place of holiness, where the LORD has stood and promised offspring, as the dust. From heaven to earth, a dream, unquestioned upon rising. The stone beneath his head is of a sacred place, a piece of ground blessed by the LORD. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Genesis 17:1

Image
Walk before me, and be blameless Genesis 17:1 Walk in the presence of the one who refers to Himself  as El Shaddai. Face to face, aware of His nearness, aware of His love, aware of the all encompassing holiness. Offer each moment of the journey with a sincere heart, one centered on worship, for this covenant is holy. You will not be perfect, or without sin, for you are the created, and He is creator. Did Adam walk like this, before the fruit was taken, when he was blameless, when he was innocent, when the garden was young, and he dwelled among the eternal? Walk in His presence. Be wholehearted in devotion, for His sandals will tread beside yours, regardless of your stride. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Brother's Keeper

Image
Of all the sin, flesh to flesh, brother slays brother. Jealousy crawls beneath the skin, a viper with sharpened teeth.   He who has slain will be driven from sight of all that is. An unbearable penance for an act of malice.   The creation of clay and breath has broken the immortal heart and walked away from the Lord’s presence. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Piercing His Heel

Image
Enmity. Opposition and hostility. Inimicus, the serpent is her adversary. Thus is the divide between she and the snake, her offspring and his. Slither on your belly as He crushes your head, and takes from you your grasp on the soul. He steals from your sight the deceived, by the piercing of His heel. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Seven Words

Image
Spoken into being, the utterance of a word. Light becomes light, and darkness has no hold. Day and night, the first word. Separated, water from water, a dome, the sky. Pleased in the evening, the second word. Gathered waters, make place for rock and soil. A whispered breath bears fruit. The sower of creation, the third word. Then there were lights, greater and lesser, to light the day, mark seasons, days and years, the fourth word. Life filled the seas. Birds took to the sky. Every creature, large and small, filling creation with life, the fifth word. Every beast of the land, wild and domestic, to cover creation. Then the image of the creator, given breath, the sixth word. Universe created, a finished task, a time to set down tools, to focus on worship, and to rest, the seventh word. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Ishmael and Isaac

Image
Ishmael - Watercolor by James Tissot Consider the moment, Isaac playing with Hagar's son. Ishmael, the father of a great people, and Isaac the chosen of God. What if, perhaps, they could have been left to play  as children, without interference and manipulation. What if they could have been brothers, without learning to hate. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

The God Who Sees Me

Image
And he said, "Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going? Genesis 16:8 Bernardo Strozzi - Hagar and the Angel 1603 You are the God who sees me. In my affliction, You stood Beside me on the road to Shur. You reveal yourself when I have run to nowhere. I stand in the desert, a homeless slave. Yahweh, You come and promise descendants, You make a covenant with a slave. God hears, and the child of both nations will be born, amidst blood and hostility. My future is not in the hands of my master, but the arms of my God. copyright 2023 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

The Word (John 1:1-5 & Genesis 1:1-2)

Image
The Word was, in the beginning, Genesis, and the Gospels. The Word witnessed creation. Through the Word all was formed, moon and stars. The Word is the essence of the sky, the sea, of mountains and valleys. The Word is a spoken utterance bathing all creation in light. A light dispelling all darkness. A light no shadow will ever quench. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author From the Collection;  According to John

His Rainbow

Image
Genesis 9:13 I am putting my bow in the clouds. It will be the sign of my covenant with the world    Good News Translation (GNT) Copyright © 1992 by American Bible Society His rainbow sets across the clouds. The storm has passed and good things shall follow. This is a covenant of smiles and not sorrow. He has washed the darkness away, night has been obliterated. You shall, the children of the Lord, walk in the light and breathe air, fresh. He will never draw water over you again. You have no need to drown in you sins, no need to shield yourselves from His face. His beautiful bow of color is spread out over the world. Once again He calls out to the sons of Adam, come in from the darkness and trust in His ways. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Eden (How Lovely is Your Garden)

Image
And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden,  in the east,  and there he put the man whom he had formed. Genesis 2:8 How lovely is Your garden. Do we ache for the unblemished beauty? There is not a single creation of man that can stand upright in Your presence. Your waterways of purification reflect trees of endless life. The carpet beneath my feet is never rough all summits of faith have been reached. I long to walk among the flowers and ferns, listening to Your instructions. I will no longer need to read Your thoughts. I will listen with a waiting ear. Eden, that I might walk where You intended me to tread, knowing I could not resist temptation. Eden, the garden You made as my dwelling, lost in my desire to disobey Your word. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
