Holy Words

Image
What is there about his words? Is it simply the phrases spoken, or is it perhaps, the voice as well. He speaks as if these words are his, as if he is the one who wrote them on the scroll.                       ~ Do demons recognize holy words, when spoken by a sacred voice? The authority of the eternal one is present. Listen and you will hear. In his speaking everything has been fulfilled. copyright 2026 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author https://www.goodreads.com

The Law

Image
Jesus Cleansing a Leper - Monreale Cathedral Mosaic The law says, they are unclean. The dreaded skin disease. If you touch them your purity is defiled. The untouchable call out, over the dried grass and hard clay. One hears. One who wants to lay a hand on theirs. The law says, the unclean blemish those without stain, but He who would touch turns the law upside down. He who is clean loves, even those who are shunned, those made wretched by the law. copyright 2026 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author https://www.goodreads.com

Those Without

Image
James Tissot - Jesus in Near the Afflicted He wraps His arms around those without, the sick, the impoverished, the empty. He comes in our loneliness, when sadness conquers and leaves tears on each page of life. He comes to the afflicted, homeless and barren. He comes to those who can't rise on their way to the pool of cleansing. He mixes His saliva with mud, and the blind see, the deaf hear. He comes when the night is darkest, when the edge is closest, when the world spews hatred and we are judged guilty by those who breed nothing but their own deviance.  copyright 2026 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author https://www.goodreads.com

Colors of their Sin

Image
"You say that you are spiritual." The statement is spoken by a young woman, a college student, with light brown hair, green eyes and petite features.  She is dressed plainly, a blouse and jeans.  She wears a silver cross around her neck. "I don't adhere to any particular faith... or religion." The response comes with a haughty air of confidence.  The second woman is older, by ten, maybe twelve years.  She is tall and thin.  She has a piercing in her eyebrow and a star tattooed on the back of each hand. "It's foolishness, you know," she continues. "I know that there is something more than what we have here... in this life.  I know that I'm a good person.  So, there is no need for me to submit to the rites of religion." "You're open to anything." the college student states, warming her hands on her mug of hot coffee.  Her comment is not a compliment, but a statement of concern. The older woman responds, after taking a sip ...

Those of Faith

Image
Jesus Appears to His Disciples - William Hole She touched the hem of his garment. He believed his daughter would be cured. - She knew the master gave table scraps to the dogs. He wanted to see. - She entered a gathering without belonging, to cry on his feet. He returned in thanksgiving, one of ten, healed of his soars. - She wiped his face. He helped with a beam of wood. - She stood beside the grieving mother. He took Mary into his home. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Lifted Up (Numbers 21:1-9)

Image
Illustration from a Bible Card - Published by Providence Lithograph Company Lifted up, like a bronze serpent on a pole. A symbol of healing, a stain being removed. Lifted up, before those who grumble, a symbol of Eden's punishment and God's mercy. Lifted up, arms spread wide on wooden beams. He who has come to heal. He who washes you in His blood. He who is punished by men. He who is your savior. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Along the Road

Image
James Tissot - Sick Awaiting the Passage of Jesus Along the road they gather, those who have heard and want to believe. Will healing bring them closer to the Word? Will sight help them to stand beneath His cross and see the son as He is? Along the road they call out. He will touch the leper. He will cause demons to submit. Will the wretched kneel in homage when they no longer bleed? Will they recall His name when He rises from a tomb? Along the road they plead. God hears them today and tomorrow. He needs but to walk past and allow you to touch the hem of His garment, and you will either sing of miracles, or explain away the sores that once bled. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

I Need You Lord

Image
I need You Lord. I turn my face to the rain, asking to be cleansed, only You can wash away my impurities and transgressions, not the rain. ~ I need You Lord. My enemies, my fears, are defeated by Your hand, but the storms around me are of my doing, my own creation. ~ I need You Lord. Open for me, the garden's gates. Heal the wounds of serpent torn flesh and satisfy the emptiness in my soul. ~ I need You Lord. From the soil of the earth I call to You, in life and death. You are the essence of my every breath. You are my God. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

If He is Willing

Image
If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean. The leper says this, almost dares, just as we often do. If you are willing, if you want to. I've often spat those words out with an occasional bribe on my part. And the leper listens. He is told to perform the rituals stated by their law. Say nothing. But the healer knows. The leper will spread the flavor of this miracle everywhere. And still He touches the untouchable and heals his sores. If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean. The sinner says this when he crawls at the pit's bottom. If you are willing, if you want to. Challenging the lamb's strongest desire. And we listen to words spoken and read, a passage of Holy Thought. And when we are told to speak, told to share our conversion, are we silent? copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Lone Sheep

Image
I am the lone sheep, wandering from the flock. I am the one unprotected, caught in the numbness of the world. I am the one frightened, but ashamed to commit to my protector. I walk through shadows, ensnared in the briars of sin. I am the lone sheep that the shepherd searches for. He celebrates my return, a sinner becomes a saint. He removes each thorn dug into my flesh and returns me to the flock healed of every wound I have inflicted on myself. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

His Touch

Image
Touch and heal all that ails. Cleanse all that stains your soul. He has offered His pain, His blood and His life on this earth. You are white as snow because He bled. A woman comes from the crowd, reaching for the hem of His dusty garment. A man asks for His sight. A prostitute washes His feet in the house of Simon. A leper can reach out for others and the voiceless can speak of miraculous events unfolding. Touch with faith coursing through your heart. He will not deny those who reach with hands and voices. Hearts overflowing with belief, a grip that will not let go. A touch crushing sin and soothing us with grace. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Heal Me

Image
And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well. Mark 6:56 (ESV) Jesus Heals the Blind and Lame on the Mountain - James Tissot Lord, that I might touch just the hem  of Your garment. I am sick. I am scarred by the world's expectations. I am crippled by the blemishes on my soul. Lord, we flock to You, expecting miracles without price. We do not know the cost of the blessing You place on our foreheads. Still we come, ailing in every possible way. I am possessed. I am a paralytic. I am covered with the stigma of leprosy. And You heal me whether I am capable of standing beneath Your cross or not. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Even in the Lonely Places

Image
As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places.  Yet the people still came to him from everywhere. Mark 1:45 (NIV) He came to soften hearts  and heal souls, but His hands cleansed, brought sight to the blind and opened the ears of the deaf. The deserted places embraced Him when the streets  overflowed with needs for the miraculous. Places of loneliness where no one would tread. Still they came from their squalor, from their ghettos, from their religious doubt. They came from the shadows  interwoven  in their lives. And He preached to them, fed them, healed their diseases. He loved them without hesitation, even in the lonely places, loving all that they are and all they will be. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Calm is the Night

Image
Calm is the night when I can rest after my toil, knowing I have felt the Lord's presence in the day's effort. Restful peace encircles me, a prayer, a passage, scripture, all spoken to touch my heart with compassion. My thoughts, less chaotic, centered on truth and not the claimed ideologies of the humanistic world. Calm is the night when I have focused often on His word and left my guilt in healing hands. copyright 2016 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
