Convictions

"I am striving to see the world through a lens, unblemished by the world’s thumb print, or the haze of my prejudice." "What do you mean," David Powell asked his friend.  He and Cooper Downs were in their early twenties, a year out of college and teaching at the same middle school in town.  David taught Science, Cooper taught English. "Life is filtered by the causes of this world.  It makes an attempt to blind us to what follows.  These classrooms are an example.  Most young people are lost and not even seeking to be found." "Still not following you." David was accustomed to his friend’s rambling philosophical thoughts.  Cooper was the most introverted person he knew, although Cooper would not agree.  Cooper Downs claimed to be an extrovert of the spirit, whatever that meant. "So, today," Cooper responded, "if you pick up a newspaper, do not look beyond the top of the fold.  There is nothing in that print worth building your life up...

If You Simply Love

They are not yours. Do not think such. They are entrusted. They are brought to you,      so you might nurture. Do no harm. Leave your pride bound up. They are your focus. It is like this with all gifts. When I bring another into your life,     a child,          a spouse, give your all,     or you will have nothing. They will always be mine,     just as you are mine. They will return to me     unblemished... if you simply love. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Who Among Us

Image
Who among us believes he is unblemished? Who among us justifies our transgressions? Who among us wears a mask to hide their imperfections? Who among us tastes hate and not love? Who among us is proud of the scriptures we know? Who among us has followed the broad path when the narrow seemed difficult? If we identify with one affliction, we possess all, covered in stains of sin and scars we see as ugly. We hate, we judge, we seek revenge. We are proud peacocks, Pharisees in the midst, standing at the entrance to the narrow road, where the incline is steep and the terrain is rocky, struggling daily to take one more step in the journey. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
