Little Flock

Image
Fear not, little flock, for it is your father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom Luke 12:32 Shepherd with a Flock of Sheep - Charles Jacque Little flock, sheep that cling to the shepherd's shadow, guided to fresh springs and grassy meadows, the ears that hear His voice. Little flock, the meek and the poor in spirit, those who think they are less than their value to God, less than their value to the son. Little flock, children who would climb on their savior's lap, give their trust to He, whose bearded cheek  rubs against theirs, copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr. https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

John 10:27

Image
Isn't that the way it is with sheep. They know their shepherd. They will follow no other. Their shepherd's voice is a familiar song. He sings and they dance. The shepherd guides them to water and food. Starvation and thirst would be a reality if not for the shepherd. He leads them to safety, to shelter, where the wolf is frightened to go. Isn't that the way it is with sheep. The world sets its fangs on their flesh, and the weak are most oblivious to the dangers. Still, the shepherd protects. He lies prone in the doorway and gives his sheep peace. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Be a Shepherd of His Flock (1 Peter 5:1-4)

Image
He desired to answer the call.   The young man came to sit with one who would guide.   The place of meeting was simple.  The older man sat in a straight backed wooden chair, in a room barren of any other furniture, besides the occupied chair and the bench where the young man sat.  The elder had a white beard and deep brown eyes, which led the younger man to believe that the hair on his face and head had once been a shade as dark as his eyes. "And you believe you have heard a voice," the older man said. "It has called you to be here.  Know that the journey you chose will not be easy.  You will be judged by both your words and your actions." The younger man nodded.  The message, or calling, hadn't come in the form of a voice.  The Lord hadn't come to him, like He had with Samuel.  The dreams and thoughts leading him here were difficult to explain.  He shifted on his seat.  The old man took notice.  The bench beneath him...

Love Beyond Love

Image
Ordination' by Nicolas Poussin, 1630s They came from various walks of life. They followed. There were eight, nine, ten, and then there were twelve. "Did you hear him?" Asked one bystander. "Did you listen?" Asked another. "He speaks of wheat and weeds," said a third. They move from town to town, the eight, nine, ten, and twelve. They draw others to them always to follow, as they follow. "I ate fish," said one who dined. "There was plenty," said another. "It might have been a miracle," said a third. Some rebuke, those with power to lose. They criticize the one who stands as a shepherd before the eight, nine, ten, and twelve. The one says He is good. He says His flesh is bread. He says He will spill out His wine. He carries a beam of wood without followers. Yesterday there were twelve, ten, nine, eight. Now there is one, and His mother. "I heard he raised up a dead friend," said one with a sword. "He made clai...

You Are with Me

Image
In that time alone when my heart wishes for another voice, when I seek the desolate country-side, looking for my shepherd, will I be close,  or far. Sometimes I feel the touch, but I long for the embrace. Is it I who refuse to wrap my arms around my heart's deepest desire? In that time alone when my heart wishes to be carried, when I seek sand and find only stone, my struggling faith designing my house, to crumble. You are with me, rod and staff, even when I cling to the world. You are with me, leading to green pastures, when I have cast my soul upon the pavement. copyright 2023 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

All That I Am

Image
All that I am, sinner, prideful, greedy. I am the one wandering from the flock, causing the shepherd to rescue a rebel. All that I am, pompous, self-righteous, arrogant. I am the one filled with thoughts of denial and betrayal. Still, He comes into my darkness and brings His light. All that I am, less than I am to be. He came to stretch His arms wide on a barren tree, because He loves me despite myself. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Shepherd

Image
Shepherd, guiding a flock over rugged terrain, seeking the green valley where the sheep may lie down. Shepherd, leading by the sound of Your voice, to food abundant and water pure. Shepherd, who seeks the wandering stray, the soul vulnerable to the wolf. Shepherd, beckoning me to follow, to rely on Him, trusting Him to lead me through the narrow door of the sheepfold. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Shepherd (John 10:11-16)

Image
You are our shepherd. You protect those of us who are Your sheep. The downtrodden, the anguished those who are weak, struggling to find their way. You keep us safe when night falls and wolves howl. You know Your sheep and we know You. You are what we have hoped for. You search for those who are lost. You find them and You bring them home. Search for me Lord, find me when I am lost in places my soul should never wander. Bring me back to the flock that listens to You. copyright 2016 - Donald P James Jr  https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author From the Collection;  Pictures of the Messiah
