Two Forms of Wisdom

Image
Who is wise and understanding among you? James 3:13 Wisdom, earthly, is of a boastful nature, it tastes of bitterness, it speaks with the tainted soul  of pride, Wisdom, Godly, it's free of hypocrisy, it benefits ones understanding of faith, it brings peace as the fruit  of its harvest. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Galatians 5:18-20 (A Sermon)

Image
"The sins of the flesh are obvious.  You know them in your heart.  Because you are led by the spirit, no longer under the law.  Do they need to be listed for you?  Do they need to be itemized?"  He looked over the congregation, took a deep breath and continued with his sermon. "Some are being led astray by the voices of the world.  Celebrities and politicians lead you away from the truth of the spirit.  They are marionettes who dance on strings controlled by their evil desires.  How many babies have been slaughtered?  How many young children have been manipulated to see a world void of God?  How many of you have thought ill of a brother because of the media's fixation.  Do you wear the badge of the world on your arm?  I hear it is gaudy, trimmed in gold.  Or do you wear the badge of the Lord?  The badge stained with dust, blood and splinters of wood." He took a drink from a bottle of water at the pulpit.  There w...

Observations (2 Timothy 3:12)

Image
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted 2 Timothy 3:12 A sinful life is celebrated. A godly life is persecuted. Is our world turned upside down? This is how it was when the fathers of our faith walked over hard clay in worn sandals. Paul instructed Timothy, a warning. Those who believed in the power of the cross would be thrown from the temple and stoned in the street. Is it so today? If you stand up for life, are you not anti-choice. If you stand up for marriage, are you not labeled with a phobia. And if you stand up for God are you not against this world's chosen culture. Celebrate if you are persecuted. You belong to Jesus. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Man of Folly (James 5:1-6)

Image
We don't heed these warnings. We count our pieces of gold and silver. I am as guilty as the richest. My sums are not nearly as elaborate but there is little difference in the eyes of He who we will stand before. Don't let this become your God. It will rot and become a testimony against you. Gold and silver, coins, are for this world. Embrace them and condemn yourself. Remember the rich man, the young fool, who chose not to follow Christ. One heart wept at that decision. The heart of He who came to die that the man of folly might choose wealth. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

1 Timothy 6:7

Image
And Paul says to Timothy, What did you bring into the world? Nothing! What can you take out of the world? Nothing! And we strive for more when we have everything we need. We work until our fingers have been made raw and worry about obtaining more than we have already been given. Wealth of coinage brings temptation and heartache. Those who desire trinkets of silver and gold are led to the world's truth, not God's We sacrifice relationships for careers. We ignore the urgent prayer in our souls which longs to be heard. And still, Paul says to Timothy... copyright 2023 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./autho

Gifts (1 Peter 4:10)

Image
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,  as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10 Gifts, God's design through us, words we see as insignificant, talents we see as insufficient. Gifts, God's daily grace in our lives, of His creation, not ours. Gifts, His prayer through us to a people in need, never ours through Him. Gifts, love that serves the servants, bringing no glory to the giver, but only to God. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

False Gods

Image
Little children, keep yourselves away from idols 1 John 5:21 False gods, idols, golden calves, proclamations of unbelievers intolerant of faith. Isn't it clear that there is one way, one truth and one life. (John 14:6) The Father is not visible through money, possessions, relationships or political division. Look for Him in His word, in His creation and in the promise of His only son. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Murmuring and Grumbling

Image
These are murmurers and complainers,  walking after their lusts  (and their mouth speaks proud things),  showing respect of persons to gain advantage. Jude 1:16  Grumbling voices, murmuring against God and those spoken to by the Lord. Never content with their share of the Father's promise. Complainers, who are never pleased with the path  they are directed to walk. Weeds among wheat, wandering eternally in the wilderness. Seeking their own lusts, justifying the outcome of foolish desires. Opening their mouths to spew forth swelling words in praise of themselves. They claim to stand for God when in truth they stand against every commandment of the flesh, carved in stone, and bow to their own glory. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Ephesians 5:14

Image
Awake, O sleeper,      and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Ephesians 5:14 The night of darkness is past. Rise up from the shadows, fold your mats and face the light. You are no longer a victim of eternal death. Sleep no more, the light bathes your face. The scent of a new morning fills your lungs. You have followed the course, without hope, of your ancestors, returning always to darkness. The word is spoken. He begs for your ear. Hear Him now while His voice calls to you. Feel the warmth of His gaze as His eyes settle on your brow. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Warnings (Titus 3:8-11)

Image
This is a true saying. I want you to give special emphasis to these matters, so that those who believe in God may be concerned with giving their time to doing good deeds, which are good and useful for everyone.  But avoid stupid arguments, long lists of ancestors, quarrels, and fights about the Law. They are useless and worthless.  Give at least two warnings to those who cause divisions, and then have nothing more to do with them.  You know that such people are corrupt, and their sins prove that they are wrong. Titus 3:8-11 Warnings, twice to those who divide the intention of the Word. Do not break down the law of love with arguments and quarrels. Corruption and sin are ever present. Give yourself to unity. Bring together what has been separated, as the Lord brought the fisherman to the tax collector. Warnings, twice and you have made the effort. Nurture the wheat and have nothing to do with the weeds. copyright 2017 - Don...

Religion (James 1:27)

Image
What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this:  to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering  and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world. James 1:27       Pure religion, without ritual, without tradition, without the glorification of human ideals. Simple religion, without worldly corruption, without laws to burden, without doctrines to recite. True religion, without status, without earthly reward, without acknowledgement of man. Take care of those who suffer, the widows, the orphans, those who struggle with weights they cannot support on their own and keep your hearts free of the world's influence. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Where is Your Victory?

Image
Death, where is your victory? Where is your sting? 1 Corinthians 15:55   Death, you have me no longer in your withered grasp. The lamb has been slain and risen again in more glory than darkness will ever perceive.  You have no victory. He has defeated every effort made against Him. Your sting is but a mild irritant, because His tomb is empty. Death, you have no claim on me. Break me, fill me with vile disease, still I will rise to walk beside my Lord in the garden once forsaken.  copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Temple of My Soul

Image
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?   If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Temple, cradling everything I am. Flesh, bone and muscle, I am made out of compassion to be compassion. You dwell in me wherever I wander, even when I take You into places defiling my spirit, injuring You, showing no respect for the love You have for me. I am more at risk of destroying my own temple, than of having an enemy slaughter me. I slowly walk my spirit into the mire of sin, finding momentary pleasure in the sensations. Temple, desecrated by my acts of rebellion. Help me Lord, to bring what I am, a body created by Your love, into realms of purity. Dwell in me Lord, fill me with the desire to honor the temple of my soul. Give me the strength to walk amid the light and forsake the darkness. copyright 2017 - Donald P...

The Same Today

Image
Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.   Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:7-8 (ESV) You are the same today, always the light of salvation. You nurture us in spirit as You did in flesh. You are the same today, speaking in places of worship, listening when prayers are uttered. You are the bread of life, the wine poured out for all. You wash the feet of those in need. You are the same today, touching those the world discards. You are present in every drop of grace poured out upon those who seek. You are the same today, word spoken in the knowledge of truth. A promise offered to those who came before us and those who will follow. You are the same today, always the light of my salvation. The one who gives strength when I struggle and guides me along the road to my home. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.a...

And We Gather (2 Timothy 4:1-2)

Image
I solemnly urge you  to preach the message, to insist upon proclaiming it (whether the time is right or not), to convince, reproach, and encourage, as you teach with all patience.  2 Timothy 4:1-2 (GNT) And we gather in the morning to praise, proclaim and preach. One body with many limbs, listening to a pastor or priest. The message is the word and the light we need in this day and the next. Those who do not know the love binding us as one, turn their backs at every anointing of the bride. Teach them, whether they shield their eyes or not. Speak when they do not listen. Convince when their hearts are hardened. His love, taught today and tomorrow, is unchanging. The beacon before you, guiding your words and actions in the times of holiness and those that are void. And we gather in the evening to give thanks for the day's grace. A people acknowledging their struggle, a body soothing its pain. We are the word He has commanded us to pre...

Fragrance of God

Image
Inspired by (2 Corinthians 2:16) "to those being saved, it is a fragrance that brings life" Good News Bible - Today's English Version We are the sweet smelling incense being offered to God by Jesus , yet it is His fragrance, breathed into our souls that gives us life. Fragrance of God, pleasant to those who believe. The musty aroma of the deep forest, leaves underfoot, pine needles fallen to the earth. The first inhale of breath from a mountain summit, clean of all impurity. The cool breeze off a morning lake, filling my senses with a new day. The scent of an apple pie cooking on an Autumn afternoon. The fragrance of God, a smell pleasing to those choosing to walk by His word, sour to those who take no heed of His voice. copyright 2016 - Donald P James Jr  https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Choices (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Image
Is the time upon us, prophesied as such, when some will no longer give their hearts to sound doctrine? Their ears itch for pleasant vices, they long for the sweetness of corruption. They wish to hear words, in the midst of drunken indiscretions, condoning their sin as God's truth. In their desire to live a life of irresponsible choices they separate themselves from the love of God and consume myths. copyright 2016 - Donald P James Jr  https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
