The Branch of Salvation

Image
Who has believed our message?  And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? Isaiah 53:1 Bernardino Luini - Crucifixion His holy arm, stretched out in the sight of all people. None will not know. They will look upon Him. Some will look away. The disfiguring sight hard to bear. They chose not to be drawn into His presence. See not His nakedness. See not the stripes on His flesh. He is salvation. But not all will witness what has been revealed. His holy arm stretched out on the limb of a tree. The branch of salvation. copyright 2025 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Traditions (Mark 7:6-7)

Image
These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain, they teach as doctrine the precepts of men. Mark 7:6-7   There is this human condition, we cling to. It is tradition. Someone long ago said it must be done in a certain way. We labor to do so without knowing why a certain task  is performed. A prophet said, when man's course was still young, that these people would honor with nothing more than their lips. They would speak worn out passages and kiss icons, while standing in the hypocrisy of traditions, and laws of their own design. Their worship is in vain, when molded by man's doctrine. The commandments of God have been overshadowed by the precepts of man. Tradition, a human condition, closing the doors of faith. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Come, Let Us Reason

Image
Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord Isaiah 1:18 Come, let us reason. Let us come together, creator and created. You have walked a road with out light. You have strayed from your guide. You are a lamb influenced by wolves. Come, let us reason. Let us gather at a sacred place, father, son, spirit, believer. You have deceived and slandered. You have painted your souls with sin. You are a lamb, sullied by the dirt of the field. Come, let us reason. let me embrace you once again, a loving father, a prodigal child. I will wash away your scarlet stains. I will make you white as snow. I will cleanse the dirt from your garments and welcome you home. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

The Word (Isaiah 55:11)

Image
The Word, spoken, uttered, into a world created for the Word. The Word returns in fullness. The Word returns having accomplished the desired. The Word, spoken, uttered, made flesh to dwell among His people. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

In the Morning

Image
He has been left in the tomb. The Passover, His Passover, a lamb slaughtered, each doorpost etched with His blood. He was despised and rejected. His love, spat upon, by those who feared His truth. No political voice spoke in His favor. He was slain by the righteous. One from whom people hide their faces. Who can look at what they have done. He counts His bones and forgives. Those who know His love will find the wrappings where vacated flesh once laid. Doubt festers until a single question is asked, "Why do you shed tears?" They have taken the Lord's body. In the morning there is a dance of joy, delayed, until they understand, the blood and sweat on the linen and the words of an angel and the crucified Lord. copyright 2024 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Those Who Will See (Isaiah 52:15)

Image
There are those who will see who until this moment have been blind. Those who have walked in darkness, the shadows of emptiness, who will turn toward the light. Some who have never heard will understand with more clarity  than scholars. And those who have never felt peace shall be wrapped in its embrace. The kings of this world are broken. Their iron fists of rule have turned to dust, their armies are bones scattered in the desert sand. Listen to the distant melodies. Pay attention to the glory in the clouds. The servant returns prepared for a battle you cannot comprehend. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Perfect Peace (Isaiah 26:3)

Image
Lord, help me to trust. Help my spirit, prone to wandering, to follow Your pathway and refrain from considering other courses. Lord, help me to surrender all of me. Help me to keep my thoughts on You and leave the world's ideals behind. Lord, I cry out for peace and ignore its presence in my life. My anxious ego blossoms into selfishness and I separate myself from the flock following You. Lord, bring me to peace. The peace that You give, freely, not the peace the world wants me to believe I need. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

The Unimportant (John 1:16-27, Isaiah 40:3)

Image
We are the unimportant.   Those who live day to day, without much hope for tomorrow.   We listen to prophets, longing to hear of a life, any life, better than what we have. We are stepped on by Romans and puppet kings.   If the empire desecrating our land were not here, another would be. And we watch him.   The authorities seem curious.   Why does this one stand waist deep in the water and baptize?   Why does he call out to the crowds, demanding they repent, claiming he straightens a path for one greater? “Who are you?” One of the priests shouts for a second time. “I am not the Messiah,” the Baptist answers. A few amongst the repentant step out of the water, onto the shore.   Their hope for a kingdom renewed in David’s name momentarily crushed. “Are you Elijah then?” “I am not.” The Baptist pauses before stepping into water less deep.   His wet garments clung to his torso. “Neither am I a prophet, but I will tell y...

Those Who Never Looked (Isaiah 65:1)

Image
He is the rare jewel, stumbled upon by those who were not searching. Some never thinking to seek Him before hearing His name, praised by the crowd. Many claim knowledge and know little. They do not call Him Lord, or Savior. He is a man in their hearts, a prophet, maybe. He is a rebel who died, that many might live. Caiaphas knew not the truth of his words. The uncircumcised, the unwashed, who themselves have deserts still to wander, find in their midst a pearl never deserved. Yet He spreads out his hands seeking those who have never thought to ask and has been found by those who never felt deserving enough to look. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Wilderness

Image
A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight in the wasteland a pathway for our God!  Isaiah 40:3 The wilderness, where the wandering stumble over trails untended. Prepare the pathway, purify your hearts. Remove the stones you hide behind. Fill the valleys and make each mountain low. Where there is rough terrain leave smooth roads, for God has made a promise and men have waited. The wilderness, where a prophet cries out to those with ears to hear, to those with eyes to see, to those with hearts to love. Repentance is the call to all people. Prepare, what now is petrified stone. Prepare the calloused soul. Prepare a heart which will be made flesh. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Are You Thirsty?

Image
Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy grain and eat. Isaiah 55:1  Are you thirsty? Is your throat parched? Then come to the water, a living stream. You will not leave unsatisfied. If you are poor, without food and shelter, come and rest, eat and drink. Wine, milk and honey, abundant and free. Why do you spend what you have without satisfaction. You consume that which is not bread, drink tainted water. No wonder you starve and thirst for more. Eat your fill, of food rich. Drink until your dried throat is no more. His word comes to you like a fountain. You will eat at His banquet, invited by the master. Are you thirsty? Is your throat parched? Then let Him wrap His arms around you and make an eternal covenant through the gift of His love. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

The Lord's Servant

Image
Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him;      he will bring forth justice to the nations. Isaiah 42:1    Here is the Lord's servant. He walks among you in the fullness of God's spirit. He comes to you humbly, a lamb of sacrifice sent to give sight to the blind, to free the imprisoned, to heal sinners. He has opened ears that were closed, banished demons to their depths. He has awakened a child from eternal sleep and laughed with those who felt no joy before. He will instruct you in ways of His Father's heart. He seeks the lost in places where the light has yet to reach. He ushers in the new covenant with His blood. Here is the Lord's servant, stretching out His arms to the world. He has caressed your heart with His example of love. All you need to do is follow the footprints He leaves in His wake. copyright 2017 - Donald P James Jr https://www.ama...

Let Us Reason ( Isaiah 1:2-20)

Image
Come, Let us reason, He says. You have become your own burnt offerings. Your hands are raised, open palmed, in one moment. they are clenched as fists in the next. You could have been Sodom or Gomorrah. Still you are nothing but a dried vineyard whose grapes have fallen from the vine. He cannot see you while you refuse to cleanse yourself. He cannot smell the aroma of the offering. Remove the evil deeds and desires from your heart. Seek what is just, give the orphan a home, comfort the widow. Then you will once again walk in His sight. Come, let us reason. You are stained as scarlet. It runs deep in your flesh. But the Lord will bathe you, wash you clean of your sins. Your marks of disobedience will be white as snow. Come, let us reason. It is you that He has longed for. You are the single sheep He seeks in the wilderness. He calls your name over the barren land and waits for the day when you will answer. copyright 2017 - Donald P James J...

His Palm

Image
Isaiah 49:15-16 Can a woman forget her nursing child,   that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget,  yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. English Standard Version (ESV) © 2001 by Crossway Bibles, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Can you see His palm outstretched, fingers and flesh, as He has become like us? He cradles the essence of all we will become, an etching  that is to be you, another that will be me. He has made us a part of Himself. He has counted all our days and all our nights. How can He forget what is engraved on His palm, carved into the fibers? His wounds of His love scar Him. The names of His children fill each nail hole with their rebellion. My heart and words slander His blood. Even when you are cast aside, by those without compassion, He will no...

The Messenger (Isaiah 52:7)

Image
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” Isaiah 52:7 (ESV) The Prophet Isaiah (Bible Card from 1904) There is a shout from the mountain, a herald calls out to the captives. He is coming to proclaim a victory, won for those who know of love and long to dwell in its embrace. The messenger announces good news, a new way. A life in the spirit, no longer of the flesh. A life of peace not war. I listen to him shout. My soul clings to every word. How marvelous the works of this Lord who stoops down to touch my brow. copyright 2016 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
