For Them (It Is Spoken)

Image
(John 17:1-26) There’s a prayer, spoken not for the welfare of the speaker, but for the souls of those gathered at table. It is spoken for those who will deny, those who will hide in the shadows when the authorities approach and a trial ensues. It is spoken for those who have not paid attention, those who will wake in the garden frightened because they do not yet understand. It is spoken for friends, for those chosen to walk at His side through small towns and villages, chosen to hear and listen. It is spoken also for those who do not dine in His midst, those who will see love in slivers of wood, those who will seek grace in thorns and hope in bread and wine. copyright 2019 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author From the Collection;  According to John

The Cycle of Want

Image
Are we at peace when we get what we’ve asked for, or do we continue to see life for what we want and not what we have? ~ Are we ever content, one day to the next, to bask simply in the gaze of He who gives good things? ~ We want yesterday when today should suffice and long for tomorrow so we might yearn for the day wasted. copyright 2019 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Labyrinth

Image
I take a single step onto the path, grass and weed underfoot, stones marking the way. I came expecting the complex and received simplicity. For what shall I pray and what canonized words should I use? ‘Our Father in heaven,’ but this discourse points toward my needs. My prayers have already been heard. I surrender to the world around me, untouched by the progress of today and yesterday. I surrender to the silence where the Spirit’s voice is amplified and I am left without petition. My final step, reached after meditation well spent, listening to the voice of my creator, He who has counted the hairs on my head, He who has said come and in the quiet has given me rest. copyright 2019 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Letters From the Spirit

Image
This collection of works was published, through the Office of Ministry to the Handicapped, as a handout for the Christmas season of 1981. The letters document the growth of 'The Spirit of the Handicapped' during the early days of the ministry, from 1977 - 1981 During the spring and summer of 1977, the Office of the Ministry of the Handicapped, renovated the interior of the old building at 323 Main Street in Norwich, CT. The funding to purchase the building was complete and summer was spent amid the chatter of volunteers who had listened to and embraced a dream. During that time, Donald P James Sr. (my father) sat and wrote the first of many letters to Brother Patrick Martin, the ministry’s director. Initially the letters were authored by ‘The Spirit of God’s Gift House’, the name given to the building, and later by ‘The Spirit of the Handicapped’. This collection of his works was published as a handout for the Christmas season of 1981. Any letters written after this point ha...

There is One

Image
But there is one light which shines through any darkness, one beacon guiding the way through any storm. You say doubt fills your heart and He says, “Come the lame are healed, the blind see and the poor have heard the Good News.” But there is one Bread which nourishes your soul, one grain of wheat broken, that all may be made whole. You say you’ve lost trust in a deceitful world, and He says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled, believe in me.” And there is one Lamb, one sacrifice for all sin, one without blemish washing you clean in His blood. copyright 2019 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Night Sky

Image
One star, which few pay attention to, dominating a sky over fields of thirsty brown grass. They labor with care only for food and rest. Few have heard the promises. None have sought to seek. Maybe a curse is spoken. Maybe the illumination in the night sky is too bright. Was there singing? Voices in harmony, beautiful. A chorus of wings, christening the night with glory. Are words spoken to your heart or ears? Is there a burning to seek an answer to a question you haven’t asked? Glory to God. Tonight He has done a great thing. He has come down into the world of the humble and called to Himself the poor. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Handrail of Heaven

Image
His hand is still small in ours, though larger than before. His voice forms syllables and words understood. He walks with steps much smaller than ours, concerned about sidewalks, squirrels and nuts. He tells us the color of a car and a Jeep, reminding us that a school bus is yellow and we need to check the mail. A walk of simplicity. Nothing matters but the moment. His small hand in ours and our hands on the handrail of heaven. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

Lead Me

Image
Lead me to the light, where peace is in abundance and I can give glory to all creation. Lead me away from the shadows of despair, the harvest of greed and selfishness. Lead me toward Your radiance, a gentle guidance showing me the proper footfalls. Lead me where you have led those who chose to follow, without looking back, at the darkness from where they came. Lead me Lord, into the light of Your love, never failing despite my failures. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author

The Humble Servant (John 1:6-18)

Image
From out of the dessert, the wilderness, where one has prayed without luxury and drawn close to his creator. Animal skins for clothing, one who will never make a name for himself. He will leave all the glory to the one who shall be glorified. His life is but to come and prepare a path for those who have never considered themselves to be holy. The one who follows is greater. The Word made flesh. The one who has come from His heavenly throne to walk among us. And the humble servant in animals skins opens the eyes and hearts of the few that the Word might embrace the many. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author From the Collection;  According to John

Do Not Ponder

Image
And the Lord says, do not ponder the end. It will come when the fruit is ripe. For now, you must watch, be on the lookout and prepared. Do not say he will be here tomorrow, or on the day that follows. Only the Father is aware of the sun's course, the stars and the moon. Concern yourselves then with prayer, with loving the unloved, with feeding the hungry, supporting the broken and speaking this message to the world. copyright 2018 - Donald P James Jr https://www.amazon.com/stores/Donald-P.-James-Jr./author
